Guidelines

The guidelines below were developed by the FSU Artificial Intelligence in Education Advisory Committee (AIEAC) to support faculty navigating the use of AI technologies in the higher education environment. The AIEAC was established with the purpose of evaluating the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on practices in teaching, assessing AI's effect on learning and student engagement, and developing guidelines that support effective use of the technology.

AI Literacy

Develop a foundational knowledge of AI technology’s capabilities, limitations, and consequences before using it in various academic and professional contexts. Ethical use should be a primary consideration when making decisions about implementing AI.

Policies

The university has been evaluating the impact of artificial intelligence on practices in teaching, assessing its effect on learning and student engagement, and developing policies for consideration by the Faculty Senate and Office of the Provost. In the meantime, be sure you know your responsibilities when it comes to protecting the security and privacy of your personal data and intellectual property.

Responsible Use

Because it offers critical data protections other large-language AI tools do not, Microsoft Copilot for the Web is the recommended AI tool for FSU faculty, students, and staff (FSU login required). If you participate in the Microsoft Copilot for M365 pilot, please be aware that all prompts are electronically discoverable and may be accessed in the event of a public records request or formal legal proceeding. Copilot for the Web does not store prompts, so they are neither electronically discoverable or searchable by Information Technology personnel or end users.
