Artificial intelligence (AI) efforts at Florida State University are faculty-led and driven by the university’s commitment to student success.
Faculty and staff on multiple campus committees are charged with developing best practices, policies, and guidelines to ensure FSU’s faculty, staff, and students have access to the latest AI technologies and are equipped with the skills they need to use AI effectively and ethically in the classroom, on campus, and beyond.
Artificial Intelligence in Education Advisory Committee
The Artificial Intelligence in Education Advisory Committee is charged with evaluating the impact of artificial intelligence on Florida State University's educational practices, assessing the effect of AI on student learning and engagement, and developing policies and practices that support the effective use of AI tools and technologies in the classroom. The committee is working to develop educational policies that will provide helpful resources and guidelines for faculty, staff, and students regarding the use of artificial intelligence for teaching and learning on campus.
Artificial Intelligence Policy Workgroup
The Artificial Intelligence Policy Workgroup is charged with establishing guidelines for the responsible use of artificial intelligence within Florida State University. Artificial intelligence technologies offer vast potential for research, education, and innovation, but they also present ethical, security, and privacy challenges. The workgroup is developing policies and procedures that aim to strike a balance between promoting the safe and ethical adoption of AI while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations regarding information privacy, security, and data governance.
Faculty Innovators AI Coffee Chats
Faculty Innovators meet regularly to hold interdisciplinary conversations on topics related to academic innovation, creating an informal network to improve communication across campus, coordinate innovative activities and opportunities, and explore innovations that have the potential to disrupt higher education. Faculty Innovators also participate in pilot test projects to evaluate new technologies — such as artificial intelligence — and ensure Florida State University is investing in technologies and innovations that are most likely to benefit faculty, staff, and students.
