Bret Staudt Willet, PhD

Dr. Bret Staudt Willet is an assistant professor of instructional systems and learning technologies at FSU, and the Educational Research Catalyst for the Innovation Hub. His research investigates self-directed learning, examining how individuals figure things out on their own using the internet, AI, and exploration in games. He studies what happens after learners complete formal instruction and training.

Shouping Hu, PhD

Dr. Hu's research focuses on postsecondary readiness, outcomes, and success in higher education, with a recent interest in the role of AI and the future of the sector. He is a highly accomplished scholar with over 100 publications, five books, and has secured approximately eight million dollars in funding from sources like the IES and NSF.

Russell Almond, PhD

Dr. Russell Almond is a statistician specializing in applying Bayesian networks and Partially Observed Markov Decision Processes to educational measurement. His work focuses on scoring game and simulation-based assessments. The author of two books on the topic, he also developed the “Peanut” system for building and scoring assessments with Bayesian networks.

Jonathan Adams, EdD, PhD

Dr. Jonathan Adams, a professor in the FSU School of Information, directs the CCI Machine Learning Lab (MLab), specializing in using synthetic visual data to train AI models. His broader research focuses on educational technologies, online learning, and entrepreneurship. With over 20 years of experience as an educator and a small business owner, he is also a Fulbright Scholar.
