Michael Neal, PhD

Dr. Neal's current book project, Blurred Boundaries: How Artificial Intelligence is Changing Writing and its Instruction, examines Generative AI’s role in writing instruction and education. He argues that AI technologies are revealing how boundaries in writing pedagogy - between human and machine, original and replicated, process and product - have always been more constructed than educators acknowledge, and that rather than resisting AI or uncritically adopting it, educators should teach critical AI literacies in ways that support students' developmental growth.
